Los Pachangueros Dance Company
Los Pachangueros Dance Co. (LPDC) is a New York City based all male dance company directed by Garry P. Portugal. Like all good things, the birth of LPDC was spontaneous and organic. In early 2012, Garry Portugal choreographed an all shines routine focused on a style of dance that he loves, Pachanga. Garry decided to teach this routine to 2 dancers in San Diego to perform with him while he was in town teaching. Surprisingly, after performing in San Diego, LA & Mexico the buzz about the dancers and the routine took off. Returning home, Garry received many requests for LPDC to perform at various venues. At this point, Garry knew it was time to officially build this group at home, in New York City.
Garry knew the image he wanted for this team and was very selective with the members he wanted to include. With out much thought, Garry invited Andres Medina to join Los Pachangueros. Working with a few other dancers to build this team, which is now known for its explosive energy, personality and excitement, Los Pachangueros came to life. After their first few performances promoters and event coordinators began requesting them to perform both nationally and internationally at their events. Los Pachangueros have, in a very short time, established themselves as one of the premiere mens groups in the salsa community. Some of their achievements include being the closing act at the Houston & Toronto Salsa Congresses as well as being chosen to participate in a special tribute showcase to the Palladium Mambo Legends at the 2013 Los Angeles Salsa Congress.
Presently, Los Pachangueros are working towards building a semi-pro team of talented male and female dancers focusing on traditional styles of salsa/mambo. Priding themeselves in their love for teaching and performing, Los Pachangueros plan to continue on their journey to fill workshops and exhilirate audiences at upcoming congresses and events around the world.
