Biography
Andres Medina was born and raised in Queens NYC. He grew up in a family full of musicians, dancers and music enthusiasts but unfortunately never took any interest in Latin music or dance until much later into adulthood. While cleaning up one day he stumbled upon his mothers CD collection and what seemed to be an insignificant discovery at the time, would change the course of his life forever. The first CD he listened to was "Lo Mato" by Willie Colon & Hector Lavoe and Andres immediately fell in love with the music. Although he didn't always understand the lyrics he felt an undeniable connection to the various rhythms. It motivated him to seek more knowledge about the music as well as the dance.
Andres' dance career started purely recreational, but he very quickly developed a strong passion for dance that motivated him to approach it more seriously. He began taking classes, workshops and training with some of the top instructors in the salsa scene including, Yamulee, Santo Rico, Baila Society, Eddie Torres, Adolfo Indacochea, Juan Matos, Sekou McMiller, Frankie Martinez, as well as many others. With the mentality of trying to learn many different styles and forms of dance it was always Andres' goal to fuse the different things he learned and find his own sense of style.
Andres has danced for multiple semi professional and professional dance teams. He currently is the director and choreographer for DeNovo Dance company as well as a member and contributing choreographer for Los Pachangueros.
